Betadine (Povidone Iodine) – It is available in:
Oral Solution 1% in a vial of 240 ml, Solution for external use 10% in a vial of 30 ml, Solution for external use 10% in a vial of 240ml, Ointment 10% in tube of 30 g, Ointment 10% in jar of 210 g, Vaginal Solution 10% of 240 ml, vaginal device, Medicated liquid soap 7.5% of 100 ml, Medicated liquid soap 7.5% of 1000 ml, Alcoholic Paint 10% of 8 ml, Cream 5% in tube of 30 mg, Shampoo 4% in bottle of 100 ml.
Contraindications: Do not apply in cases of hypersensitivity to iodine. Frequent use is contraindicated in patients with thyreoid disorders. Its use in children between 30 months and 5 years old should be done only when there is an absolute indication and by prescription. The long use of burn surface area greater that 20% carries risks of metabolic acidosis. Special caution is requiered when frequent and extended use in patients with preexisting renal insufficiency. During prolonged use should be tested of thyreoid funtion. Frequent use of povidone iodine preparations should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.
